What are the services available at the information centers?

    1. Information about the Distance Learning Centre and its programmes
    2. counseling services
    3. Assistance with Registration
    4. Collection of Resource Materials
    5. Collection of Matriculation and Convocation gowns
    6. Complaints and special needs
    7. Resource Support
    8. Submission of Bank drafts for fees and other charges.
    9. Serve as learning centers and provide opportunities for interaction for students.

The information centers are run in partnership with private sector organizations. Consequently some minimal charges have been agreed upon with respect to services rendered. The centers are meant to serve students and reduce the stress and cost of obtaining education through the Distance Learning mode.

It has been discovered that the greater percentage of cost of Distance Education in Nigeria is spent on Boarding and Accommodation, Travels and loss arising from physical and psychological displacement from one’s environment.

In spite of the move towards an IT driven distance education in Nigeria, the share challenges posed by huge cost of infrastructure for internet assess and electricity by private individuals makes it imperative for the need for intermediation through the instrument of information centers. Our cultural environment is still not technology friendly.

The information centers provide necessary cushioning for the technology shock to individuals. Importantly, they provide opportunities for those in the same proximity to interact and obtain support.
